Man, 20, accused of attempted murder

-

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing on a main shopping street.

Mohammed Osman has been accused of attacking a man with a knife during a confrontation in Gallowtree Gate, Leicester, on March 23.

The man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene to hospital.

The 20-year-old defendant, of Hipwell Crescent, off Halifax Drive, in Beaumont Leys, was one of three people arrested on Wednesday in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for the force said Osman had also been charged with “aggravated possession of a knife”.

She said: “The charge alleges he was in possession of a knife and that he unlawfully and intentionally threatened a person with the knife in such a way that there was an immediate risk of serious physical harm to the person.

“The charges relate to the same victim following an incident in Gallowtree Gate on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 23, where a man was found to have suffered stab wound injuries.

“He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries but has since been discharged.”

Osman was remanded into custody and was due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

“A 55-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, both from Leicester, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released under investigation,” the spokesman said.
