Pooling together nicely
NEW pictures show the swimming pool at the £22.5 million Coalville leisure centre taking shape.
Work on the centre on Stephenson Way has been taking place for the past eight months and the site is now taking shape - although it is not set to open until summer 2022.
The centre is being built for North West Leicestershire District Council by Metnor Construction off Stephenson Way. Once open, Whitwick and Coalville leisure centre will replace Hermitage leisure centre in Whitwick, with the management company at Hermitage - Everyone Active - taking over the new centre.
Councillor Andrew Woodman said: “We’re really pleased with how well the leisure centre is progressing.
“The building works are starting to come together and with the structure now in place, we can begin to visualise how the end result will look.
“Metnor Construction are well on track to finish the project by summer 2022 and we’re really looking forward to welcoming residents to make use of the first-class facilities.”
The steel frame of the building is now in place, along with the roof and the main structure of the swimming pool.

The next step is to complete the roofing and install beams in the pool hall, which will house an eight-lane, 25-metre main pool and learner pool with a moveable floor.
The centre will also have a 120-station gym, two exercise studios, an eight-court sports hall and three squash courts.
There will be a sauna, steam room and spa pool and a Clip ’n’ Climb, as well as a café and 250 car parking spaces.
The wider area is being transformed into parkland with a “trim trail” with activity stations, pedestrian and cycle access from Hermitage Recreation Ground and Stephenson College, and a high ropes course within the woodland.
Everyone Active’s regional contract manager, Dan Hicks, said: “Not only are we delighted with build progress, we are really pleased with how Metnor are engaging with the community. It is really pleasing to know the community are benefiting from the build process, culminating in a fantastic leisure facility which they can be proud of.”
