PLAYER RATINGS

- N/A

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: Saved Mahrez’s two shots that were straight at him, and could not really have done better for either of the goals; trying to close down Sterling for the second needed to be done. 6/10

DANIEL AMARTEY: Drafted in with Soyuncu stuck in Turkey, and for most of the game he showed good positioning, concentration, and strength to do his bit in the defensive effort. 6/10

JONNY EVANS: For most of the game, he was in the right place to clear, while he played some nice balls over the top too. Caught out for De Bruyne’s outstanding pass for Man City’s second. 6/10

WESLEY FOFANA: When he could, he galloped forward with the ball to try to start City counters, having also stepped in to intercept on occasion too. His decisionmaking over when to do both was good. 6/10

MARC ALBRIGHTON: Will be disappointed to have been beaten by Mendy’s chop inside for the goal. Swung a few decent passes forward to the front pair, but City looked better breaking down the other side, so he didn’t see a great deal of the ball. 5/10

WILFRED NDIDI: Looked calm on the ball when others were not keeping their heads around him, and even made a few bursts from midfield. 7/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: In the first half, it was his passes that were going astray to leave Rodgers frustrated on the sidelines. He improved in the second period, and showed good energy to support the front two. 5/10

TIMOTHY CASTAGNE: He showed confidence in trying to break out from the back. Defended solidly too, winning headers and making blocks at the back post. Mahrez did not threaten as much as he has in previous games either, which is another plus point for the Belgian. 6/10

AYOZE PEREZ: Did very well with very little. Every time he received the ball, he showed tight control to shield it under intense pressure, and then a good attacking instinct to move it forward to the strike duo. Helped keep Walker quiet too. 7/10

KELECHI IHEANACHO: The scoring streak is over because for the first time in a while, it was not Iheanacho’s day. His touch didn’t stick, he waited a little too long to offload his passes, and a few of City’s promising secondhalf moves broke down with him. 5/10

JAMIE VARDY: He doesn’t see much of the ball at the best of times, so was barely involved here, but when he was, he held it up well, combining nicely with Castagne in the first half. 5/10

SUBSTITUTES

JAMES MADDISON: Kicked all over the park by a Man City side showing no sympathy over his recent injury woes. Showed his rustiness with a mis-hit shot after a good City move. 5/10

RICARDO PEREIRA: Hardly saw any of the ball, making very little impact other than teeing up Maddison for that late chance. 5/10

PAPY MENDY: On for a few minutes.
