OFFICERS USE A DISPERSAL ORDER FOR SECOND NIGHT

POLICE detained 16 teenagers after problems with anti-social behaviour in Blaby.

The force extended a Section 23 order, which gives them the power to arrest anyone who refuses to leave an area, around Northfield Park in the village for a second night on Sunday.

An order had been granted for Saturday night after a police car was damaged during a big gathering that broke lockdown rules.

Police said in a statement yesterday: “A further dispersal order was authorised in the area of Blaby and Whetstone overnight following further reports of anti-social behaviour.

“Officers were continuing to carry out patrols in the area of Northfield Park, Blaby, and the surrounding area, yesterday following reports from the previous day of anti-social behaviour.

“A Section 34 Dispersal Order had previously been authorised overnight from 10pm on Saturday to 7am on Sunday.

“The order gives officers the power to require people to leave the area, to reduce the risk of causing harassment, alarm or distress to the community and to also reduce the risk of any further public disorder.”

The police said they received more calls on Sunday evening about groups of young people on the park.

Reports included drinking alcohol, smashing bottles and littering. A police spokesman said: “Police were already in attendance in the area, patrolling the location. “Officers detained 16 people – 10 men and six women who were aged between 17 and 19 – to obtain their details and inquiries remain ongoing.

“No arrests have been made. “The further Section 34 Dispersal Order was authorised between 10.20pm yesterday evening and 7am today.

“No issues reported order made. “Police are also working with partner agencies to discuss further ways to address the concerns raised.”

To report anti-social behaviour, call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
