‘City can’t afford to dwell on loss’
PEREZ SAYS FOCUS MUST BE ON ON SUNDAY’S TRIP TO HAMMERS
AYOZE Perez says Leicester City must not dwell on their defeat to Manchester City as they prepare for another important match this weekend.
Leicester were beaten 2-0 by runaway Premier League leaders Man City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
But they have a chance to bounce back when they take on top-four rivals West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday (2.05pm).
Leicester are third in the table but are now four points behind secondplaced Manchester United, who came from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday evening.
West Ham – one of the surprise packages of this season – are currently seventh, seven points adrift of Leicester but with a game in hand.
David Moyes’ side were due to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux last night.
After the Man City game, Perez told the Foxes’ official website: “It wasn’t our day in terms of the result at the end – but we are focused now on the next game. We cannot stay disappointed on this.
“We’ve got another big game next weekend.
“It’s not long now until the end. We know how tough it is, how tight the table is.
“Now, we’ve got a very important game, a very good chance to bounce back and get the three points.”
Second-half goals from Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus eventually broke Leicester’s resistance.
“Obviously, it could have been a different game but we cannot talk about what it could have been,” Perez added.
“We still stuck to the game plan, we know they are a very strong team and they’re in good form.
“We were in a great position, 0-0 after 50 minutes or so, so we knew we’re going to have chances, but then little details made the difference.”
On a personal note, things are looking up for Perez following his recent return to action from an injury lay-off. “I felt very good out there,” said the Spanish forward.
“It feels really nice to get another 90 minutes after a while.
“But the most important thing, at the end of the day, is the team and trying to help the team.”
