MOBILITY SCOOTER MAN IN HORROR CRASH WITH HGV
ACCIDENT VICTIM IN A SERIOUS CONDITION IN HOSPITAL LAST NIGHT
AN ELDERLY man was rushed to hospital yesterday after his mobility scooter was in a collision with a lorry, writes Adrian Troughton.
Witnesses said the man’s scooter ended up being trapped under the HGV.
The air ambulance was in attendance as part of the emergency response, but the casualty was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by road ambulance.
His injuries were said to be serious.
The collision took place in Regent Street in Loughborough shortly before 10am yesterday.
Roads in the area were closed for a few hours as police carried out initial inquiries, leading to a buildup of traffic in the town throughout the day.
THE elderly rider of a mobility scooter was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle was in collision with a HGV.
The man was injured when his scooter was in collision with a lorry on Regent Street in Loughborough shortly before 10am yesterday.
The casualty was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by ambulance.
Police closed Regent Road near the junction with Ashby Road to allow the emergency services to deal with the situation and for a detailed examination of the scene.
According to witnesses, the crash left the scooter underneath the lorry.
Area Traffic Control warned drivers that the road was blocked and advised them to avoid the area.
Traffic was congested throughout Loughborough due to the closure. The road reopened at 5.20pm.
A police spokesman said: “At about 10am, officers were called to a collision involving a lorry and a mobility scooter on Regent Street, Loughborough.
“The road was closed while officers attend the scene. East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended and a man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with a serious injury. “Enquires are ongoing.”
An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.56am to Ashby Road. The caller reported a road traffic collision. We sent two paramedics in two ambulance cars, a crewed ambulance and the air ambulance was also in attendance. We transported the patient to Queen’s Medical Centre via land ambulance.”
