Mystery of empty kayak is solved
THE owner of an overturned kayak which sparked a river search by police has come forward.
Leicestershire Police took part in the search of the River Trent on Sunday after the empty craft was found at the river bank near Shardlow Marina, north of Castle Donington.
Officers and crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service also visited nearby Sawley Marina as part of the operation to establish whether anyone had gone into the water. Now the owner of the kayak has contacted police to let them know they are safe.
A police spokesman said: “The owner of the kayak has made contact with police and confirmed their safety.
“We reported that emergency services teams had carried out searches along the River Trent to ensure no-one was in danger following the overturned kayak being found.
“No-one was found in the water and no further concerns were raised.”
Inspector Chris Gamble thanked the kayak owner for coming forward.
