Foxes’ charity is pitching in with reading support

-

LEICESTER City FC’s charitable arm is supporting national children’s literacy charity, Schoolreaders, to help more primary school children catch up on lost reading skills.

Even before the pandemic, one in four children was leaving primary school unable to read well and school closures have worsened the situation, with disadvantaged children suffering the most.

The club’s charity, Leicester City in the Community, will be working with Schoolreaders to attract new volunteers across Leicester, Loughborough and

Coalville to offer further support to primary schools with valuable one-to-one reading time to help children with reading skills.

Emma Lowry, Leicester City in the Community Education manager said: “Through this initiative, we aim to ensure all children, regardless of background, can reach their potential.”

Jane Whitbread, founder of Schoolreaders, said: “We are so grateful to Leicester City in the Community for their support. If a child leaves primary school not reading properly, it can have lifelong negative consequences.”
