Armed police lock down street as man Tasered

SUSPECT ‘MADE THREATS’ TO OFFICERS

ARMED police locked down a Leicester street after a wanted man allegedly threatened officers.

Police went to a house in Beech Drive, Braunstone, shortly after 4.30pm on Monday to arrest the suspect.

A force spokesman said the 49-year-old man started to make threats to the officer so armed back-up was called in.

Officers tasered the man before arresting him. He was then taken to hospital to be checked over.

He was discharged and remained in custody.

Police closed off the road while they dealt with the incident - with eyewitness­es saying police were on the scene for several hours.

A police spokesman said: “Shortly after 4.30pm (Monday) police attended an address in Beech Drive, Braunstone, to arrest a man wanted on warrant for failing to appear at court.

“When officers arrived, the man became uncooperat­ive and began making threats towards police. In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed. “Officers entered the property and the man - aged 49 - was arrested on suspicion of affray and for failing to appear at court. “Outside the address, the man became violent towards officers and a Taser was discharged. “The man was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary to be checked over.”
