Probe over death of red kite
POLICE are investigating the death of a bird of prey found in a field near Hinckley.
The body of a red kite, which has wingspan of 5ft, was discovered in a field off Caldecote Lane, near the A444.
Specialist wildlife crime officers have launched the investigation after the protected bird was found on Wednesday, April 28.
Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch reported what is known as a Raptor Persecution investigation on social media.
A post on its page on Facebook reads: “Red kites were on the verge of extinction following decades of persecution in this country. The last few decades have seen their numbers grow and re-establish themselves.
“They are protected under the Countryside and Wildlife Act and it is an offence to intentionally kill or injure them.”
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0140 of April 28.
