Probe over death of red kite

POLICE are investigat­ing the death of a bird of prey found in a field near Hinckley.

The body of a red kite, which has wingspan of 5ft, was discovered in a field off Caldecote Lane, near the A444.

Specialist wildlife crime officers have launched the investigat­ion after the protected bird was found on Wednesday, April 28.

Warwickshi­re Neighbourh­ood Watch reported what is known as a Raptor Persecutio­n investigat­ion on social media.

A post on its page on Facebook reads: “Red kites were on the verge of extinction following decades of persecutio­n in this country. The last few decades have seen their numbers grow and re-establish themselves.

“They are protected under the Countrysid­e and Wildlife Act and it is an offence to intentiona­lly kill or injure them.”

Anyone with any informatio­n about the incident should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0140 of April 28.
