A SERIES of events that aim to give people the chance to experience that “big night out” feeling are coming to a city venue.

Athena, in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, will host the “Sit Down Social” events on selected dates from Monday, May 17, until Wednesday, June 16.

Themes include an ABBA Vs Queen night and an Electric 80s night. There will also be Wednesday night student sessions.

The events are being organised by local company Rockstar Promotions, which is known for its student events at venues including the O2 Academy, Revolution, Leicester Racecourse and Highcross.

The Athena evenings are seated social events, with a capacity of 536 people, booked in tables of six to comply with coronavirus restrictions.

There will be entertainment in the form of DJs and performers, as well as party packs on each table.

The events will be table service and the organisers have worked with the council and public health to ensure they are fully Covid secure.

Martin Cullen, managing director of Rockstar Promotions, told the Mercury: “We think these events will be something pretty special and give people the opportunity to experience that ‘big night out’ feeling during the next stage of the lockdown restrictions easing, which we hope will be good for the city.”

The Sit Down Socials will begin with a launch night on Monday. It will run from 7pm until midnight and tickets start at £16 for a table of four.

On Saturday, May 22, you’ll be able to enjoy an evening of ABBA and Queen music, from 6pm until 11pm. Ticket prices start at £20 for a table of four.

The following Saturday, May 29, 80s music from Michael Jackson to Whitney Houston, through to Bon Jovi and Earth Wind and Fire will feature. Ticket prices again start at £20 for a table of four. Wednesday, May 19, May 26, June 2, June 9 and June 16, will all be student sessions, running from 7pm until midnight and with tickets from £16 for a table of four.
