Emergency nets up after falling lead hurt woman
STRUCTURE TO PROTECT OTHER PEDESTRIANS OF ROOF DEBRIS
AN EMERGENCY structure has been put in place over the entrance of a Leicester restaurant to stop debris falling and endangering pedestrians.
The wooden frame and protective netting have been put over the entrance to San Carlo, in Granby Street, in the city centre, after a woman was injured by falling roof lead at about 1.45pm on Monday.
Police reported that the woman was struck by a roof tile, but Leicester City Council has subsequently said that the object was in fact a piece of roofing lead.
The woman was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary by East Midlands Ambulance Service. Police said her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Officers cordoned off a section of Granby Street outside the restaurant after the incident. Crews from the fire service were called in and closed the road to pedestrians and traffic between Rutland Street and Bishop Street.
Leicester City Council’s building control team assessed the roof and erected the protective netting.

team took from them afternoon. “Some loose material was removed, but some remained too high to reach.
“We’ve installed protective netting and a wooden structure over the entrance to San Carlo to prevent any further debris from falling to street level, while the restaurant owners arrange for contractors to remove the remaining loose debris and carry out the necessary repairs to make the building safe. Our building control team will monitor that work to ensure it is done correctly.”
Police reopened the road after 9pm on Monday. over late
