ID proposal for voting will only benefit Tories
THE government’s plans to require photo ID to vote, when passports cost upwards of £75 and a driving licence application is £50, feels like they are implementing a fee to vote.
Cynically, it also appears to be disproportionately affecting demographics who do not typically vote for the Conservatives.
Those who respond with “well, any voter fraud is too much” in relation to Matt Hancock’s assertion that there were six cases will be horrified to learn of our high rates of child poverty and food bank use.
This is a clear example of attempted voter suppression and, like the Policing Bill, is this government’s unashamed attempt to seize more powers and erode our democracy.
