THE remnants of a cannabis factory has been dumped on a country lane in Leicestershire.

Plant stalks, fertiliser tubs and extractor fans were among the rubbish flytipped on Sulby Road, near Welford, on the border with Northamptonshire.

Harborough District Council’s Enviro-Crime Team is sifting through the rubbish for clues as to who dumped it.

Council officials have removed the rubbish and are appealing for help in tracking down the culprits.

A spokesman for Harborough District Council said: “The fly-tip was reported by a member of the public.

“We take fly-tipping very seriously in the district and we would appeal for any information people may have about this incident.

“We would remind people that if they do not dispose of their rubbish legally they can face a fine of £300 or more.

“Always check that anyone removing rubbish from your home has a valid waste carriers licence by looking on the Environment Agency website.” This is the third time in six months that the remnants of a cannabis growing operation have been fly-tipped in the Harborough area.

In November, cannabis growing equipment and unwanted sections of the drug-producing plants were dumped on a country lane.

The discarded plants and equipment were flytipped along with a pile of household waste in Covert Lane in Scraptoft. In March, a fly-tipper dumped 15 binbags full of soil and the unwanted remains of cannabis plants on Gartree Road just outside the hamlet of King’s Norton, near Great Glen, in the Harborough district.
