‘POP-UP’ HAS BEEN FIXTURE IN SHOPPING CENTRE SINCE 2017

THE Disney Store in Highcross could close its doors, the company has confirmed.

The store, which opened in 2017, was welcomed back to the city after a Disney store of 20 years closed its doors earlier that year.

But now it seems the shop may close a second time, with Disney confirming it is holding “consultations” with a number of its stores, including Leicester’s outlet.

Disney pop-up stores usually open for the Christmas period and remain open for three months before closing.

However, the Disney pop-up in Highcross has seen a significant amount of success since opening, and has been a mainstay of the shopping centre since.

This could now be all at risk, with Disney considering closing a number of stores.

A spokesman for the Disney Store confirmed that the shop’s future hangs in the balance.

In a short statement, he said: “We are currently in consultation with an initial group of stores in the UK, including our Leicester store.”

No further information has been given for why the Leicester store might close, but elsewhere the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns has caused many companies to look at their portfolio of stores after a difficult year for the high street.

Leicester’s previous store, located in a larger unit in another part of Highcross, was closed because the company said at the time that it “constantly evaluates” its portfolio of stores to ensure they’re in the “right sites”.
