Patience pays off as little Latte finds his perfect home at last
A SHY rescue dog has finally found her perfect home after six years.
The Pomeranian, called Latte, was taken in by a rescue centre in 2015 after being found wandering the streets.
He was initially extremely shy and wary of people he didn’t know and other dogs.
But the staff at Dogs Trust Loughborough have persevered with his training - and it has now paid off.
They believed he would thrive in a single-person household with not too many comings and goings.
They also knew that his new owner would need to be patient and prepared to meet him many times at the centre to build a close bond.
Step forward Aggie Czarnecka, who had wanted a dog for a few years and was a lover of Pomeranians.
She found his details on the dogs trust website and got in touch with the team, who explained to her that she would need to take things at shy Latte’s pace.
Trainers at the Loughborough centre have taught Latte techniques to help him remain calm if he sees other people or dogs when taking a walk, as well as help with muzzles and visiting the vet.
Aggie said: “The team had made such great progress with him. Just like them, I wanted to give him the best chance of being happy and loved in a home of his own, however long it took.
“So, for four months I spent time with him at least twice a week at the centre, and we started to build a bond. Then one day he jumped into my arms and we knew he was ready to come home. It was wonderful.
“He is now fully settled and has really helped me through these last few months of lockdown. He is very affectionate, loves to be made a fuss of and is a joy to be around.”
He loves going out for walks and knows to expect a treat when his owner whispers “yummies” in his ear.
Aggie said her experience has been wonderful and is encouraging anyone thinking of taking on a rescue dog to be prepared to do what it takes to offer them a good, permanent home.
