Go now, Boris, you’ve made enough mess

-

SO, we had another shock result in the by-election in Chesham and Amersham.

The losers in this by-election, the Tories, blamed it on all sorts of reasons, none of which were sensible.

The winners were just as surprised and unclear about the shock result. And so, I have dug deeper, and what do I find?

Firstly, we as a country have suffered from the coronavirus since early 2020. All the evidence shows that Boris Johnson’s team have mismanaged the crisis.

They have proven to be slow starters in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and were incredibly slow in stopping the virus to be brought in from other countries.

Secondly, we have had lots of late emergency actions, which have been counter-productive. Vast shortages of PPE equipment, which is a direct result of running our social services, including our NHS on a shoe-string, have delivered their blunt answers.

To counter this ineptitude which has been prevalent throughout the Tory governments, vast new contracts were handed out to friends and relatives of the Tory party.

A detailed research by Transparency UK found contracts worth £3.75 billion, which equated to 20 per cent of all contracts between February and November 2020 whose awards “merits further investigation”.

It also found that 24 of these contracts for PPE worth about £1.6 billion were awarded to those with known political connections to the Conservative Party.

Most of these contracts were not subjected to any “competitive tendering examination” nor for any technical capability and experience in supplying such goods or for having any close political affiliations to the Tory party.

One such person, who won a contract for supplying test tubes, happens to be a next-door neighbour of the former Health Secretary, Matt Hancock.

Through the grapevine, we hear that the head of our NHS, Simon Steven, is retiring from his job in July.

There are various experienced candidates available to take over from him but I do very much hope that Dido Harding, is not given a look in.

Recently, she ran our Test and Trace programme during the pandemic. She seems to have been selected for that important job mainly because of her own Tory Party connections and, as expected, made a mess of the whole programme and resigned a few days ago.

Prior to this, she spent a spell in charge of TalkTalk broadband company. Under her management, there was a huge data security breach and the company was fined a massive £400,000.

Dominic Cummings, our PM’s exchief advisor, is now indicating that Mr Johnson plans to “leave” Downing Street soon. My plea is this: Leave now Boris. You have made enough of a mess already.
