Chip shop brings the beach to customers
A CHIP shop is giving customers the chance to enjoy the fun of the seaside, in Leicestershire.
Chris’s Fish and Chip Shop in High Street, Barwell, has brought what it describes as the “beach factor” to the village, creating a seasidethemed area in its community garden opposite the shop.
Owners Strad and Gina Kyriacou have put up deckchairs and themed cutout boards which provide a photo opportunity for customers.
Strad Kyriacou told the Mercury: “We understand it has been difficult to get your fish and chips at the seaside this last year, with Covid and restrictions, so we have brought the beach factor to Barwell!
“We have provided deckchairs, giant deckchairs, and fun photo cutout boards to bring the feel of the beach to the village. Couple this with our great fish and chips, and it’s the next best thing to being at the beach.
“We love to see our customers eating in the garden we created, enjoying their food, and to provide a bit fun too, we think it’s a great combination, brightens up the village and brings a smile to people’s faces.”
The seaside-themed additions are set to remain in place as long as the weather allows - hopefully until the autumn.
Chris’s is in the running to be named Best Takeaway in Britain at the British Takeaway Awards 2021.
It is one of three Leicestershire businesses to have been shortlisted in the East Midlands region, and the results will be revealed at an awards ceremony in September.
