APARTHOTEL The Gresham, which is opening in the former Fenwick building in Leicester city centre, is now taking bookings.

Guests can now book themselves in for a stay from Thursday, September 30, the company behind the venture has confirmed.

Aimrok Holdings’ £17 million renovation of the grade II-listed Victorian building on the corner of Market Street and Belvoir Street is one of the city’s latest and most high profile developments.

The Gresham’s owners described it as a “stunning 121-room uppermid-scale to upper-scale aparthotel, with four commercial units and 12,000 square feet of state-of-the-art co-working space and conference rooms”.

A range of room types are available, from a studio for a flying visit to a two-bedroom family apartment or a luxury “sky room” which affords views over the city.

Prices start at £60 a night for a standard double studio or inner stuand dio. Facilities include free highspeed WiFi, air conditioning, king, super-king, twin or double bed depending on the room booked, wardrobe/clothing storage, sofa and living area and television.

The kitchenette areas have hobs, microwave, fridge, kettle, sink, food preparation area, crockery and pans.

Rooms also include a dining table and chairs, shower room with complimentary White Company toiletries, towels, hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, a safe and USB sockets.

Aparthotel guests will be able to access the fitness suite, kitted out with equipment including a crosstrainer, Concept 2 rower, indoor cycle, treadmill, dumbbells and bench. There is also a self-service laundry room on site, which is available, free of charge, for all guests to use.

Fenwick shut in 2017 - two years after Leicester City Council quit its nearby New Walk headquarters and moved hundreds of staff across town to a new base in Charles Street.

A number of units in Market Street neighbouring Belvoir Street stand empty.

However, Leicester City Council believes the area’s fortunes are improving.

A council spokesman said earlier this year: “The approaching completion of the Gresham building has undoubtedly sparked significant renewed interest in the street.

“With it featuring both residential and work spaces, it will bring people into Market Street during the day and at night-time.

“We’ve been doing ongoing work to improve the look of the street as the city centre emerges from lockdown, such as working with the Business Improvement District to display colourful Street Stories artwork in the windows of vacant units, and working together with businesses to beautify the street by installing ivy screens at outside areas and, over the coming weeks, to install hanging baskets.

“We are also in contact with several firms which could be interested in opening in some of the vacant units in the street.”
