SHOCK IN THE

RESIDENTS have expressed their shock as a murder investigation was launched following a stabbing.

A crime scene cordon has been thrown around Green Lane Road, in North Evington, Leicester, where a man was found fatally wounded in the early hours of yesterday.

East Midlands Ambulance Service contacted police at 2.30am after being called to a report of a stabbing.

The victim was treated at the scene by medics, but was pronounced dead at approximately 3am. He had not yet been formally identified by the time we went to press last night.

Detectives said they would like to hear from anyone who was in the area before 2.30am who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

A police spokesman said officers are keeping an open mind as the investigation is in the early stages but the incident is being treated as a murder.

Evington ward city councillor Deepak Bajaj said: “It upsets me that the beautiful Evington ward has been affected by another murder inquiry.

“It’s hard to express. My condolences go out to the family and friends and I urge anyone to come forward with any information regarding this case.

“We as Evington ward and Leicester are a family and we are united. I hope we all can gather some information and get to the bottom of this.”

Online, one person said: “Another tragedy. Seems to be becoming the norm now. My thoughts are with the family at this awful time.”

“It’s more or less every day now,” said another. A third said: “What has my child got to grow up in? It’s getting worse.”

Anyone with any information is asked to report it online via the police website or call 101. You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Green Lane Road was closed between Freeman North Road and Wicklow Drive yesterday.
