THIS WEEK

-

HERE at the Leicester Mercury, our archives are bursting with brilliant football photographs.

So throughout July we’ll be digging out the best ones to take you on a pictorial wander down Memory Lane – and who better to accompany you along the way than Leicester City’s official club historian, John Hutchinson?

John, whose fascinating articles on little known stories from the club’s past have entertained Mercury readers in the close season for a number of years, will be focusing on four decades over the four weeks.

We started with the 1960s a fortnight ago, and we’ll progress each Monday throughout this month, through the flamboyant 70s in last week’s edition, to the yo-yo years of the 1980s this time and the many Wembley visits of the 1990s, with two League Cup finals and joy and heartache in four play-off finals.

Every Monday will feature an eight-page pullout full of our most memorable football photography.

The picture spreads will reflect the highs and lows of following

City. We’ve already had the Swinging Sixties, which promised so much, with three FA Cup finals all ending in defeat, but the club’s first “proper” silverware, courtesy of a League Cup in 1964.

Last week we had the flamboyance of the 1970s, and the great City entertainers.

Anyway, make sure you get your Mercury every Monday never in a month of Mondays will you have enjoyed such cracking access to our archives!
