E-scooter and cycling set up unsatisfactory
NOWHERE during the debate about the permanent introduction of cycle lanes is there mention of cycles and electric scooters being used on pavements.
Anyone walking along the pavement on either side of London Road will find that cyclists and scooter users weave in and out of the pedestrians, whose exclusive safe area should be the pavement.
The cyclists should be in the cycle lane or on the road.
The cyclists also choose to use the pavements on both sides of Stoughton Road, connecting London Road with the Gartree island.
Pedestrians don’t hear them coming until they are overtaken at close proximity and any resident reversing out of their drive is in danger of being run into at high speed.
The whole set up is most unsatisfactory, because nothing is being done to deter this mix of transport modes on the pavement and it is becoming acceptable practice.
It is dangerous and should not be allowed to continue.
