Renamed leisure centre ‘will thrive’

-

SWIMMING star Ross Davenport has backed the newly renamed Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido to be a huge success.

Ross, who won double gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, helped to relaunch the facility previously known as Hood Park leisure centre.

The 37-year-old was joined by Derby County FC women’s captain

Hannah Ward to support a day-long programme of events to celebrate the change of name, a £1.2 million redevelopment of the site and the launch of the Ashbyby-the-Sea brand.

More than 30 activities were held at the venue, which is run by Everyone Active for North West Leicestershire District Council.

Ross said: “The renaming of the site is really going to raise the profile of the outdoor pool.

“I hope the community and people from farther afield will be encouraged to use the amazing facility they have here.

“The lido is looking great and I’m sure people of all ages will enjoy the improvements made and the centre as a whole for many years to come.”
