Hill will lead Foxes in their Royal London Cup campaign
ACKERMANN AND PARKINSON ARE BOTH INVOLVED IN THE HUNDRED
LEWIS Hill has been announced as Leicestershire Foxes captain for the forthcoming Royal London Cup campaign.
Hill, right, will skipper his home county for the first time because club captain Colin Ackermann and vicecaptain Callum Parkinson are not available for the 50-over competition due to their respective duties in The Hundred tournament.
Hill made his Running Foxes bow in the competition in 2015, compiling 846 runs at an average of 24.17.
His best score in the competition came against Worcestershire in 2019 where his 118 – a maiden century in the format – helped the Foxes to a 38-run victory at Grace Road.
Hill said: “It is a very proud moment for me, to be named as the one-day captain for Leicestershire.
“The last few years I have thought about this sort of thing, and it is great to be given the opportunity to be able to prove myself as a leader as I am now one of the older guys in the squad.
“It’s really good to be given the opportunity and to make Leicestershire proud.”
Hill was involved in yesterday’s intersquad fixture as part of the team’s preparations for the Royal London Cup competition.
The Foxes’ opening match is against Derbyshire Falcons at the Uptonsteel County Ground tomorrow, starting at 11am.
