Man charged after stabbing led to armed siege drama

A MAN has been charged following a stabbing in Wigston that resulted in an armed siege.

Christophe­r Antill, 37, of Bull Head Street, Wigston, is facing charges of blackmail, wounding with intent and false imprisonme­nt.

Officers were called to a home on Bull Head Street at 5.14am on Thursday by East Midlands Ambulance Service, who were treating a man with a stab wound to the arm.

Two people inside the property refused to leave, resulting in trained negotiator­s being deployed along with the Special Operations Unit, which has a dogs unit, armed police, and drones at their disposal.

End to allow emergency services to attend.

The road was shut for several hours because of the incident.

A woman, who was also inside the property, was taken to a place of safety, and police have confirmed the man’s injuries are not life-threatenin­g or life-changing.

Antill appeared before Leicester Magistrate­s’ Court on Friday and was remanded in custody.

A Leicesters­hire Police spokespers­on said: “Police were called at 5.14am on Thursday to an address in Bull Head Street, Wigston by East Midlands Ambulance Service to a report of a man stabbed at the address.

“On arrival, a man was found with a stab wound to the arm and was treated at the scene and subsequent­ly taken to hospital.

“His injuries are not life-threatenin­g or life-changing.

“Two people at the address refused to leave the property and trained negotiator­s were deployed.

“In the interest of public and officer safety, Bull Head Street was closed between Church Nook and Mowsley End to allow emergency services to respond.

“A 37-year-old man was arrested within the property on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

“A woman who was also inside the property was taken to a place of safety.

“Police would like to thank the public for their co-operation and understand­ing while the incident was dealt with.”
