Engelbert’s wife laid to rest
FINAL JOURNEY FOR PATRICIA DORSEY, WHO MARRIED SINGER BACK IN 1964
MUSIC legend Engelbert Humperdinck and his family joined a funeral procession across the county ahead of his wife’s funeral yesterday.
Starting at Market Harborough, the hearse travelled to the singer’s home in Great Glen to pick up the family then went through Leicester and Queniborough, where Patricia - also known as Popea - was born.
The funeral was then conducted at the Chapel at Amhurst School in Loughborough.
Patricia, who had been married to Engelbert since 1964 but had battled Alzheimer’s disease for almost a decade, passed away on February after contracting Covid-19.
Last week on Facebook and YouTube, the 85-year-old Release Me singer spoke to his fans and asked them to say a prayer and, if they were in the area, watch the funeral procession to by.
In the video he said: “My precious wife, Popea, will be making her final journey.
“She will begin from Market Harborough, which is just down the road from us, and she will come home to collect us here in Great Glen - collect her family - and we will then proceed to Loughborough to the chapel.
“We have kept the service plans close to our hearts and private due to the changing challenges of Covid safety but Patricia was a proud Leicester lady, salt of the earth and very much loved from Queniborough where she was born - to Leicester, to Great Glen.
“It would be lovely to see friendly faces along the way, especially in Great Glen and we will respectfully slow down in Queniborough.
“So a prayer or a tip of the hat or a wave would be wonderful, so wonderful.
“And it doesn’t matter where you are in the world at that particular time. Please, just say a prayer for my beautiful and wonderful wife, my darling Patricia.
“And just remember, I love you.” Engelbert was born in India in 1936 and moved to Leicester when he was aged 10. He currently spends his time between his mansion in Great Glen and his home in California.
