E-scooter rider taken to hospital with head injuries after collision
AN E-SCOOTER rider was taken to hospital after hitting a car in Leicester’s West End.
Police were called at 5.10pm on Saturday by East Midlands Ambulance Service after a collision between a car and an e-scooter on Bolton Road.
The scooter rider was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment, but police confirmed their injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
No one was arrested following the incident, but the man’s scooter was seized by police.
A police spokesman said: “At 5.10pm on Saturday we were called by the East Midlands Ambulance Service to a report of a collision involving a car and e-scooter in Bolton Road.
“The rider was taken to the LRI to be treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening or life-changing.”
West Leicester Police tweeted that a second e-scooter was also seized at the scene, belonging to a passer-by who decided to stop and say hello to officers there. They confirmed the first e-scooter rider suffered head injuries because of the incident.
They wrote: “This evening a male suffered injuries to his head after being involved in an RTC on the Fosse. Male was treated by EMAS and taken to hospital.
“His e-scooter was seized along with another e-scooter who decided to say hello to officers at scene.”
They also attached a link to Leicestershire Police’s website, where they offer advice on e-scooters, informing the public they are only legal on private land or using an approved e-scooter rental service - privately owned e-scooters are illegal to use on the road or public spaces.
The website says: “It is not currently possible to get appropriate insurance for privately owned e-scooters, meaning it is illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces.”
