A RANGE of clinics offering Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines will be open this weekend.

Anyone aged over 18 who has not yet been vaccinated or is due for a second dose can go to one of several clinics across the city and counties.

NHS bosses are urging women who are pregnant, in particular, to take up the vaccine. The Pfizer or Moderna jabs are available for women during pregnancy.

The Moderna vaccine – the third to be approved for Covid-19 in the

UK – became available for the first time in Leicester on July 5.

Based on evidence from clinical trials, in people aged 18 and older, it was 94.1 per cent effective at preventing Covid-19 infection in people who received two doses and had no evidence of being previously infected.

This equates to almost the same efficacy as the Pfizer vaccine It has now been eight weeks since the vaccination programme opened up to over-25s which means many people will be eligible for a second dose.

While some might have chosen to book an appointment, the dropin clinics offer the vaccines without the requirement of a booking.

Anyone who is not able to get their vaccine this weekend will still be able to do so after the weekend via further clinics or by arranging an appointment via the national booking system.

People are encouraged to keep an eye on the clinical commissioning group website for the latest.
