Car fire causes part of busy road to shut

-

A SECTION of a major road in Leicestershire was closed because of a car fire at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a report of a vehicle on fire on the northbound carriageway of the A50 between the Gynsills island and Groby, around 1.20pm on Saturday.

The road was closed while officers and crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the emergency.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The car was recovered and the road reopened at around 3pm.

Market Bosworth Police posted a photo of the burned-out car in the team’s regular Facebook update the next day.

The officers said in their message: “Its been a busy few days on the roads across the beat.

“As well as attending RTCs (road traffic collisions), we have also been assisting other agencies to keep their staff and the public safe.

“As the roads get busier (especially when the schools go back) please allow more time for travelling. It is also essential that all vehicles are roadworthy and ready to travel.”

The beat team advised drivers to use the acronym POWER: P Petrol, O - Oil, W - Water, E Electrics and R - Rubber.
