World record attempt

-

AN attempt to set a new world record is being made by county golf club Rothley Park this weekend.

On Sunday, the club aims to get itself into the Guiness Book of World Records for the fastest-ever 18-holes by a team of golfers.

The current record was set in 2015 by Farnham GC in 13 minutes 42 seconds, which will be a tough time to beat.

But Rothley Park captain Alan Dorn said: “Our members are all fired up and keen to challenge this time.

“The enthusiasm and response have been fantastic.

“Our fairways will be flooded with players of different handicap rankings, all of whom want to help to achieve our goal and also to raise money for our captain’s charities.” Lady captain Jenny Piecha said: “Along with independent witnesses to ensure our attempt is played within the rules of golf, the whole event is to be filmed, so that will be quite a feat for a cameraman to keep up with the pace of play from a buggy.”

In the world record attempt format, teams will be positioned around all 18-holes at the start.

The ball will be driven from the first tee and players will be placed on the fairway to hit the next shot until the ball is on the green.

Once the ball is in the hole, a signal will go to the person waiting on the second to tee off immediately.

This strategy will continue around the course in a relay until the ball is putted on the last hole.
