Ladies promoted back to Division One in fine style

SENIORS TEAM SEE OFF ALL THEIR RIVALS ON EASTBOURNE’S GRASS

-

LEICESTERSHIRE ladies seniors team have gained promotion back to Division One in emphatic style, writes Neil Phillips.

They won all their matches on the international grass courts at Eastbourne.

On the final day it all came down to the last match on court which saw captain Anne Meredith and partner Kerry Pollard edge out their Essex opponents in a thrilling third set tiebreak.

Things didn’t bode well at the start of the tournament with Sue Boulter – Katie Boulter’s mother – having to drop out through injury.

Luckily for the county, multitimes county champion Kerry Pollard was able to make the trip south as a more than able replacement.

The event was played in difficult weather conditions, the first day win over Sussex being curtailed by gales and rain after the county had taken a winning lead.

Bedfordshire were comprehensively beaten on day two with county taking all the singles and doubles rubbers.
