PLANT pots and other garden ornaments have been stolen by thieves in a spate of raids in Earl Shilton.

Residents have been urged to keep a close eye on their outdoor ornaments after the incidents.

They include:

■ July 23: Solar lights stolen from outside a property in Breach Lane

■ July 30: Black bin stolen from Highfield Street

■ July 31: Plant pots taken from a garden in Astley Way

■ August 4: Attempted theft of a garden ornament in Coniston Close

Hinckley police said: “Following recent incidents involving thefts of garden ornaments, we are asking people of Barwell and Earl Shilton to be aware and remain vigilant for any activity involving your own or your neighbours’ garden property.

“If you have seen or have any knowledge of garden ornaments being stolen, please get in touch with us via 101.”

On July 24, vandals tore up plants from community planters, in Top Town in Barwell.

The ripped up cordylines had been planted by Barwell Bloomers, a group of volunteers who refresh the planters across the village.

Michelle Nash, from the group, said there have been several incidents where vandals have torn up the plants since June this year.

She said: “We have struggled like mad this year so it’s very demoralising when they pull the plants out.

“The villagers are all up in arms about it in Top Town.”

In June, garden ornaments were stolen from outside properties in Burbage, but residents worked with police to quickly track down the culprits and recover the items.
