COLLEAGUES ON CHALLENGES FOR CHARITIES IMPORTANT TO THEM

- By STAFF REPORTER

TWO staff from an engineering consultancy have been taking on challenges for charities close to their hearts.

Caroline Rands is running 1,000 miles during 2021 to raise money for Leicester Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nathan Allen, her colleague at Hugglescote firm M-EC, is undertaking a virtual walk of 874 miles – the distance from Lands’ End to John O’Groats.

Caroline’s daughter Alice was admitted to Leicester Children’s Hospital at the age of three with a rare digestive condition. She made a speedy recovery.

“As a family we are so immensely grateful for the sheer determination and high levels of care shown by the whole team at Leicester Children’s Hospital in saving our little girl,” Caroline said.

“I’m following in Alice’s fund-raising footsteps as in December she managed to raise more than £1,000 in a 50-mile running challenge, despite being only 10.”

Caroline is on track to complete her challenge by the end of the year, with 577 miles clocked up so far.

Nathan is supporting mental health charity Mind.

He said: “Having experienced difficult times with my own mental health both recently and as a teenager, I wanted to raise money for a charity that supports people with their mental wellbeing.”

Nathan, who began his fund-raising at the end of March by taking on

WORKING TOGETHER: Caroline Rands and Nathan Allen at the Garendon Gallop 10k a series of walks throughout Leicestershire, has covered 311 miles so far.

M-EC director Alex Bennett said: “We think it’s important for people to feel supported by their employer to take on their own fund-raising challenges.

“It means they are taking action for a cause that is close to their own hearts and doing something that makes them feel proud.

“When our staff are undertaking a challenge it creates a buzz around the office, or across our virtual platforms.

“Everyone is cheering them on, keen to hear of their progress and providing words of encouragement.

“The company is always ready to help them meet their financial goals and support them as they need it – including getting stuck in.

“Everyone at M-EC is extremely proud of Caroline and Nathan’s inspirational fund-raising efforts.

“It’s a pleasure to see our staff taking on challenges outside of work to raise money for such worthy causes.

“We’re excited to see how they progress and ready to dig into our pockets for the benefit of the two charities.”
