CHARGING points in pay and display car parks have gone live for the first time in Blaby, with more set to be installed.

John Court and Enderby Road car parks are the first charging points to go live in the district, with eight bays in each car park exclusively reserved for electric car owners to charge up.

A further six bays in Weavers Court and two bays in Leicester Road, Narborough, are set to be ready for use in the coming weeks.

The bays will allow drivers to plug in their electric vehicles and leave them charging overnight.

Supplier EB Charging are offering the first two months of charging for free as part of the scheme.

Work is now fully under way to install a total of 24 electric vehicle charging points in Blaby District Council-owned car parks. Charging will cost 30p per kW and payments will be made via the EB charging app.

Twelve 7kwh twin chargers will be available in the following car parks:

Johns Court, Blaby - Eight bays

Enderby Road, Blaby - Eight bays

Weavers Court, Narborough - Six bays

Leicester Road, Narborough - Two bays

The charging bays will have a three-hour maximum stay from 8am-6pm Monday to Saturday.

But cars parked in the bays must be plugged in to a charging point and displaying a valid parking ticket in order to avoid penalty notices being issued.

A spokesperson for Blaby District Council said: “There will be no charge for parking in the bays on Sundays or outside of the enforced hours, but the 30p per kW charge will apply at all times.”

According the council, the locations have been chosen based on their ability to meet a “strict criteria” set out by the funding company, Office of Zero Emission Vehicles OnStreet Residential Chargepoint Scheme.
