Another assist for Wright – but Robins are defeated

-

CALLUM Wright registered his third assist in two games but could not stop Cheltenham Town falling to their first defeat of the new season, writes Jordan Blackwell.

The Leicester City attacking midfielder, on loan with the Robins again after helping them win the League Two title last season, chipped in a cross for Andy Williams to head in at the weekend, but two late goals saw them suffer a 3-1 loss to recently-relegated Wycombe Wanderers.

For Wright, it’s three assists in two starts having set up both goals in midweek, when Cheltenham beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 in the Carabao Cup first round.

The first was a long, raking pass over the top of the defence, with the second an overhead kick attempt that was flicked in.

Elsewhere in League One, George Hirst made his league debut for

Portsmouth as they beat Crewe 2-0 to make it six points from six.

Hirst only played the final eight minutes but did get to taste the Fratton Park atmosphere.

He says he needs to be starting games before his dad, former England striker David, will come down to watch him.

“He hasn’t been down yet – he’s told me that he’s not going to come and watch unless I’m starting, so I need to pull my finger out!” Hirst said.

In the Championship, Daniel Iversen and Preston sit bottom of the table after two games, North End losing 2-1 to Reading in their latest encounter.

LancsLive rated the Dane’s performance as 5/10.

Another City loanee, Tyrese Shade, sits bottom of the table in League Two after Walsall lost 3-1 to Forest Green. After exciting showings in his first two outings, Shade could not get into the game at the weekend.
