MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE AFTER DEATH IN ‘STREET ASSAULT’
VICTIM IS NAMED AS 49-YEAR-OLD FATHER FROM LEICESTER
A MAN has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 49-year-old father.
Charles Neeson, pictured, from Leicester, was found unconscious outside Natterjacks bar in Braunstone Gate, Leicester, last Friday night.
He died as a result of his head injuries on Monday.
Joe Baldwin, 27, of no fixed address appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He was remanded into custody to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday, October 11.
A MAN has appeared in court charged with manslaughter following the death of a 49-year-old father.
Joe Baldwin, was at Leicester Magistrates’ Court yesterday in connection with the death of Charles Neeson.
Mr Neeson was found unconscious outside a bar in Braunstone Gate, Leicester, last Friday evening.
In a statement, police said: “A 27-year-old man charged with manslaughter following the death of a man who died after he was assaulted in Leicester city centre has appeared at court.
“Joe Baldwin, of no fixed address, appeared before Leicester Magistrates’ Court.
“He has been remanded into custody to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday, October 11.
“The charge relates to an incident on Friday, August 27 where Charles Neeson was found unconscious in Braunstone Gate, outside Natterjacks.
“The 49-year-old from Leicester died in hospital on Monday evening.”
Mr Neeson’s family issued a statement through police.
They said: “Charles is a loved father, brother, uncle, loyal friend and significant other.
“He’s a good man that has always prioritised and helped those around him.
“He will live on through our memories and will always be remembered.
“We’re all so distraught by this tragedy and are working through this as a family.”
Detective Inspector Kenny Henry, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is an extremely difficult time for Mr Neeson’s family and they are being supported by specialist officers as our investigation continues.
“We know it was a busy evening and there were a number of people in the area at the time.
“We urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to officers to get in touch if they witnessed the incident or know anything about the circumstances leading up to it.
“We would urge any taxi or delivery drivers who may have been in the area to get in touch if they recorded any footage on their recording equipment.
“Also, if you or anyone you know has any footage captured on their telephone, please contact us.”
