Hi di die, campers
AS series six begins, it’s now 1958 in the chocolate box village of Grantchester. With JamesNorton’s Sidney Chambers long gone, DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) has settled into his follow-up copper-clergyman double act with Rev Will Davenport (Tom Brittney).
The pair are such good mates, they’re even going on a summer break together. The whole gang – including Geordie’s family, Sylvia and Jack and Leonard and Daniel – drive to Merrie’s holiday park for some sunshine and Butlins-style entertainment.
Everyone’s having a glorious time except Will, who suddenly realises he’s the only one not using the trip for an “afternoon snooze”, ie. a bit of romance…
But before he can ditch the dog collar and flutter his eyelashes at someone, the inevitable happens: there’s a murder. You always knew this would be a busman’s holiday, and park owner, Roy, drops down dead while entertaining the holidaymakers in the clubhouse.
It soon becomes clear that he didn’t die of natural causes and luckily Geordie is on hand (still suited and booted despite being on his hols). He’s ready to kick the useless investigating officer off the case.
Interviewing the guests, he realises there are lots of people with a motive to kill Roy, and he really isn’t the charmer he made himself out to be. But the real drama of this episode comes when Leonard is propositioned by a Blue Coat, Brian.
Mortified, Leonard rejects his advances and Daniel tries to reassure him.
But Brian is humiliated and determined to get revenge…
