Haywood faces ‘tougher fight’ after getting new opponent
EARL SHILTON SOUTHPAW WILL NOW BOX FEARON FOR TITLE AFTER AMOS PULLED OUT INJURED
KYLE Haywood faces a new opponent for the vacant Midlands Area super-welterweight championship in Leicester next week, writes Matt Bozeat.
The Earl Shilton southpaw was going to face unbeaten Ryan Amos for the belt at the Morningside Arena on Saturday, September 11.
Amos pulled out injured a few days ago and Alex Fearon has stepped in to replace him.
The 27-year-old from Derby is a southpaw who is making his third bid for Midlands honours.
Carl Greaves, Haywood’s manager, trainer and promoter, said: “This is a tougher fight for Kyle.
“We were preparing for a short, orthodox fighter who only had four fights and now Kyle is facing a tall southpaw who’s got experience at championship level. Kyle gets a lot of southpaw sparring at my gym and he says he prefers boxing southpaws. “I’m grateful to Alex for stepping in to take the fight at a couple of weeks’ notice. He really fancies the job and I’ve told Kyle to expect a hard night.
“It has the makings of a really good fight.”
The show also features local fighters Sheldon Purdy, Benn Norman, Stanley Stannard and Joe Ducker.
