Proposals the most stupid seen in 30 years

-

AS a resident of Station Street, Wigston, I’ve noticed this is the only car park that’s not pay and display.

I can only assume the budget ran out for us!

I must admit I have always been in favour of car park charges for this car park and have said so from day one. It would free up the car park from bus drivers, students and teachers.

But this system is ludicrous. It means that if we, as residents, can’t park our car on the street, which is usual, at any time of day, we’d have to use the car park, as I was told by Oadby and Wigston Borough Council. We would also have to pay the permit fee that goes with it. But, oh joy, I can appeal.

So let’s get this right. We would then have an extra council tax of £50 to £75 a year to park our car because the street will be full of students and teachers and anybody else – helping hands, chemists and anybody else who wants free parking: “Let’s pop into Wigston, park in Station Street and catch the bus. it’ll be cheaper.”

Students and teachers can’t afford £1 a day now, so how will they be able to £150 a year? Its laughable.

So, to put it into perspective, when Mr Transit van, fence man from Glen Gate or Canal Trust wants to park in the street, they can free of charge, but then we have to pay so that they can park on our street at our expense, even though they might have their own spaces in their own street, but bring their work van home to dump outside someone’s house

Yes, I know it’s an off-street car parking area but this can not be right.

We’ve lived here for the best part of 30 years and this is the most stupid system I’ve seen.

Why not go back to 30 minutes or even 60 minutes and for residents issue us with an R to say we’re one? It’s a bit of laminate, 30p to £1 at most. Stick one in your car window, job done.

We also now have the prospect of up to 45 houses being built on the bus depot. Where are they all going to park?

One last thing. My sister visits occasionally. Does this mean she will have to pay £150 to see me because she will be unable to park in the street?
