HOT STUFF! POLICE PAIR TO TAKE PART IN CHARITY FIREWALK LATER THIS MONTH

TWO police staff are set to show they can handle the heat when they attempt a daring firewalk in aid of charity.

Pcsos Lorraine King and Kate Needham, pictured, left to right, who both work from Hinckley Road police station, in Leicester, will show a hot pair of heels when they tackle the feat this month.

The pair will be putting their bare soles to the most extreme of tests in Leicester’s Grand Central Square on Wednesday, September 15, in order to raise money for Loros – a hospice and charity close to both their hearts.

Kate’s husband, David, is being helped by Loros – which supports people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – as he fights motor neurone disease, while Lorraine’s uncle Jim spent time at the hospice during his last days battling cancer.

Fire walking, which is known to date back tens of thousands of years, sees people walk barefoot over hot coals or embers and was once seen as a rite of passage in some cultures.

Temperatures can reach 648C – 1,200F.

But for Kate and Lorraine, who are part of the Westcotes beat team within the Central Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area – it is an opportunity to say thank you and raise money for a good cause.

Kate, who has been a Pcso for 12 years, said: “Loros is a charity close to both our hearts.

“We want to give something back for all the support they have shown to ourselves and our families and raise money for a good cause.

“As a Pcso, you never know what the next day will bring and what challenges you might be facing, so what better way to raise money than taking on a new challenge?”

The pair set themselves a minimum target of £200 for the charity.

As of yesterday afternoon, they had surpassed that, reaching £259, but are obviously hoping to raise as much as.
