A WOMAN who was feeling lonely over the bank holiday weekend took to Twitter after having not spoken to anyone in a while – and received thousands of heartwarming responses

Nicola J, from Leicester, asked fellow Twitter users to say “hello” if they came across her post.

In the tweet, she said: “It’s been a while since I had a conversation with anyone.

“Weekends are often the worst. Please say hello if you see this!”

Within an hour of her original tweet, on Saturday night, she had received floods of replies and by Sunday she had more than 4,000 responses and 11,600 likes.

The retiree already had a following of more than 7,000 people who enjoy her regular gardening-related tweets.

Many of the replies shared her sentiment, some saying they had also been feeling lonely and appreciated her bravery in posting, while others shared their garden pictures with Nicola, flooding her replies with images of flowers, pets and nature.

One response said: “Hi Nicola, I can relate to your words – just going through one of the most difficult periods in life after a long quarantine that left my social life shattered.

“Braveness takes many forms and your tweet is one of the bravest I’ve seen. Keep strong!”

Responding to one of the kindhearted strangers in her replies, Nicola said she had been on her own since 2019.

Nicola received responses from people living as far away as Japan, asking how she was, offering advice and some asking for tips on gardening and vegetable growing.

The avid gardener later tweeted to thank those who took the time to send her a message, saying: “Thank you lovely people for saying hello.

“I’m fine, just starved of company and conversation. Otherwise well.”
