CASUALTY ‘BLEEDS TO DEATH AFTER SMASHING SHOP WINDOW’
POLICE NOT LOOKING FOR ANYONE ELSE OVER DEATH
A MAN died a short time after he had injured himself smashing a shop window, police believe.
The man died en route to hospital yesterday morning after he was found with “significant injuries” in Forest Road, in Loughborough town centre.
A section of pavement remained taped off yesterday as police forensics specialists examined the scene.
People in the area said they saw a trail of bloody footprints leading along Ward’s End away from the town centre toward Bedford Square and Forest Road.
A councillor also tweeted a photograph of a pool of blood at the scene.
A woman who works in the area said: “It’s awful. We’re just waiting to hear more from the police, but it sounds absolutely tragic. It seems he got injured breaking a shop window and walked away and collapsed a short way down the road and just bled to death.”
Another person working in the area said: “It’s shocking, sad and tragic.
“For someone to do something instantaneous like that and to suffer for his actions in this way is so sad. From what we know – and it could be hearsay – but we think he was only 21 years old. “That is the age that people are bandying about.” A force spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating the death of a man following an incident in Forest Road, Loughborough, in the early hours of Thursday.
“Officers were called to a report of a man banging on a door in Forest Road and attended the scene.
“Upon arrival, officers found a man with significant injuries. It’s believed he sustained them after causing damage at a shop in Devonshire Square.
“Unfortunately, the man died from his injuries on his way to hospital.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death and it is not being treated as suspicious.
“Inquiries are now being progressed on behalf of HM Coroner.”
