MAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY OWN CAR AT GARAGE
HE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN FILLING UP WHEN VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL
POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man died when he was knocked down by his car at a petrol station.
The man is believed to have been filling up when his unoccupied Mazda CX5 began rolling away and was knocked over as he attempted to stop it.
Inquiries into the tragedy in Main Street, Broughton Astley, are continuing.
A MAN has died after being knocked down by his car at a petrol station.
Officers were called to a report of a man being injured at the filling station in Main Street, Broughton Astley, at 3.45pm on Wednesday.
Confirming that a man had died, police said initial investigations suggested that a car – an unoccupied grey Mazda CX5 – began to roll away from a fuel pump as the driver was preparing to refuel.
In his attempt to stop the rolling car, the driver was struck by the vehicle.
He was taken to hospital but died later that day.
Motorists were warned to find an alternate route as a cordon was put in place between the Cosby Road and Orchard Road junctions for about seven hours while police carried out inquiries.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
A statement from the force said: “Inquiries are continuing into the incident and anyone who may have witnessed what happened and hasn’t as yet contacted police is urged to do so.”
