MURAL CELEBRATES SPORTING TRIUMPHS OF THE YEAR
MURAL CELEBRATES CITY’S FA CUP AND MARK SELBY’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WINS
A MURAL is being painted in Leicester to celebrate Leicester’s sporting success of 2021.
The artwork, produced by Graffwerk, will depict Leicester City’s FA Cup triumph alongside Mark Selby’s World Snooker Championship title on the side of the Parks Club for Young People building, in New Parks Boulevard.
Leicester City ambassador Alan Birchenall will unveil the mural this month.
The artwork was funded by the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation Gift of a Wish after Nev Turner – a Leicester City supporter and a long-time servant of New Parks Club for Young People – put a request in ahead of his 86th birthday.
Nev said: “It has been my idea to upgrade the Jessica Ennis mural celebrating her success in 2012 and to see Mark Selby and FA Cup celebration is a dream come true.
“Without the generous Vichai Foundation funding it would have not happened, so I thank Leicester City sincerely for making this happen.”
The mural was also supported by Leicester City in the Community and the fire service. Four-times world snooker champion Selby said: “I was a member of the New Parks Boys Club in my younger days and it’s good to see it is still offering opportunities for young people on the estate.
“Hopefully, the artwork will help inspire the next generation of Leicester sports stars, too.”
Leicester City in the Community health and wellbeing manager Matt Bray said: “Nev has provided a lifetime of service to the New Parks community and should be proud of the positive impact he has made to many people.
“The mural is a testament to his commitment to the Club for Young People
“We support the club and use the building to host weekly community sessions for adults and children from the area, and look forward to continue working closely with Nev in the future.”
An official unveiling takes place next Friday to coincide with Nev’s birthday.
