Rocket to be raffled off

A HIgHLIgHT of the Rocket Round Leicester art trail is being raffled off to raise money for a hospice.

Moondance, a giant juke boxshaped sculpture featuring the names of space-related songs, was organised by Loros, together with leading art event producers Wild in Art.

It is just one of 40 giant rockets which are weaving their way across the city.

Now Moondance, which is sponsored by gem Radio, is being raffled off to raise money for Loros and trail-goers are being encouraged to buy a ticket to support their care for patients.

Alison Pettit, fundraising coordinator for the groby Road hospice, said: “We’re so delighted so many people have enjoyed the trail, it’s kept families busy all summer long.

“We know plenty of people who’ve told us they love our Rockets and want to take one home.

“Now everyone has a chance to win one. And for our patients, every ticket is a winner!”

The funds raised by the raffle will go to support Loros, which cares for 2,500 patients each year.

The much-loved charity largely relies on the generosity of the community to fund the care provided.

Artist Jenny Leonard, who designed Moondance, said: “I’m delighted my sculpture has been chosen as the raffle prize. It’s exciting to think it might be won by someone who wouldn’t otherwise be able to buy such a big piece of artwork.

“It might be worth a lot in the future.”

Tickets, which cost £5, are available to purchase at the Trail Hub shop in Highcross or from selected Loros shops. The draw will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
