Out to highlight hospices
RIDER SETS OFF ON A 732KM
A PHYSIOTHERAPIST taking part in a 732km bike ride aims to raise £1 for each kilometre for Rainbows hospice for children.
Philip Yorkstone, who works at Rainbows, started his challenge last Friday from the Loughborough hospice.
Over six days, he was due to visit six other children’s hospices to show his support.
He said: “The past 18 months have been really tough for us all.
“For the families that access a children’s hospice, every day, month and year can be tough.
“Working at Rainbows I get to meet amazing children and young people and am passionate about the work we do. So, as always, I wanted to support our work again this year.
“However, this time I also want to promote other children’s hospices across the country.
“Each and every one of these hospices is committed to ensuring the best possible quality of care, and therefore the best quality of life, to those who need its services.”
Philip, who was be joined by friend, Kevin Harvey, a physiotherapist at Acorns Hospice, was due to call in at Bluebell Wood, in Sheffield, Martin House, in Wetherby, Claire House, in Wirrell, Hope House, in Oswestry, and Acorns, in Worcester.
Gary Farnfield, Rainbows community fund-raiser, said: “It is always great when a colleague takes on a challenge to raise money for Rainbows and we are all grateful to Philip for taking on this ride.
“It is also really nice to be able to show our appreciation of other children’s hospices and to highlight the vital work we all do.
“We hope people will take a look at his fund-raising page and support his efforts.”
