Community concerned after latest stabbings
TWO MEN FOUND INJURED IN A PROPERTY HAVE SINCE BEEN DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL
TWO men were taken to hospital with stab wounds after police were called to a property in the city.
Officers said they received a report of two men being stabbed inside an address in St Peter’s Road, Highfields, at 9pm on Thursday.
The men were taken to hospital for treatment for injuries which were not described as life-threatening or life-changing.
In an update yesterday morning, police confirmed both men have now been discharged.
A large cordon was put in place in the area surrounding St Peter’s Road, with several roads still closed yesterday.
Neighbours expressed fear and concern about recent knife crime in the area.
One person, who did not wish to be named, said: “The knife crime situation in this town needs looking at urgently, whatever was behind what happened here. There are too many young men who can’t see anything wrong with carrying a fatal weapon.”
No arrests have been reported and police said inquiries are ongoing.
Last week, a murder investigation was launched following the death of 18-year-old Abdirahim Mohamed.
He was found in Melbourne Street, Highfields, with stab wounds.
So far five men have been charged in connection with the murder and police confirmed another arrest was made yesterday.
A police spokesman said: “Our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident continues but we can confirm from inquiries carried out so far, there is no criminal link between the stabbing in St Peter’s Road and the murder in Melbourne Street last week.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101.
