Everyone urged to register with GP practice

-

HEALTH service managers are urging people not registered with a GP to do so.

A spokesman for the city’s clinical commissioning group said registering with a GP practice will give access to free health and care treatment when needed.

This includes being routinely updated about how to book and access vaccines.

GP Dr Rajiv Wadhwa said: “It’s important that all our residents register with a GP, even for people who are only due to be in Leicester for a short period of time, whether they are here to work or study, or on an extended visit.

“Registering with a GP should be high on everyone’s priority list.

“It will mean that medical treatment can be accessed without delay.

“GP practices are located in every area of the city and we are able to work with patients to manage their health so they are less likely to require hospital care.

“We help patients to make decisions about their conditions and, should patients require more specialist care, we are able to work with other providers to help make this happen.

“Anyone can register with a GP practice and we have dedicated support available from our registration officers who are on hand to help anyone in Leicester who is unsure about how to register with a GP practice, or what information they would need.

“Help to register is also available, for those who don’t speak English as their first language.

“I strongly urge anyone that has yet to register themselves or a family member in their care to do so at the earliest opportunity.”
