Take a trip to Memory Lane this weekend
VINTAGE BUSES WILL BE STARS ALONGSIDE THE TRAINS AT GCR
FAMILIES will be able to take a trip back in time when the Bus and Train Spectacular returns to the Great Central Railway tomorrow.
The event is set to take place tomorrow at Quorn and Woodhouse Station, and will give visitors the chance to enjoy a nostalgic ride on the vehicles.
Free vintage bus and coach rides will be running all day, operating on a variety of routes, including to and from Loughborough Central (Great Central Railway) and Loughborough Midland (East Midlands Railway) stations.
The event, which runs from 10am to 5pm, will include a celebration of 50 years of the Metro-Scania single-deck bus plus the return of Leicester City Transport Leyland PD2 No.154 following its three-year refurbishment.
The first production Dennis Dominator, Leicester city’s most popular bus in the 1980s, will also feature after its extended restoration.
Alongside this, more than 30 vintage buses are expected to be on display, with stalls selling transport-related items and refreshments.
Enhanced train services will run on the Great Central Railway, with steam and diesel locomotives and diesel railcar.
Short-hop train fares will be available, enabling you to travel between Quorn and Loughborough one way by free heritage bus and one way by steam or diesel train.
Parking, costing £3, will be available in the field adjacent to Quorn and Woodhouse station, or you could arrive by train on the Great Central Railway.
Limited parking for disabled will be available in the station yard.
The event is organised jointly by the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and the Great Central Railway.
