Recovering Rashford nearing a King Power return

-

MANCHESTER United striker Marcus Rashford may have timed his comeback from injury perfectly for the Red Devils ahead of their Premier League clash against Leicester City, writes Amie Wilson.

The forward is yet to play a game this season after undergoing shoulder surgery during pre-season.

Rashford is now stepping up his recovery and looks set to make his comeback after the international break when City host Man United at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of that game, the England international featured in a behindclosed-doors friendly against Championship side Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

Following that game, Rashford tweeted: “So good to get some minutes under my belt today.”

His eyes may now be on the game against City and it may be a game that the striker will relish more than any other.

That’s because Rashford has scored more Premier League goals against City than any other team in his career.

In 12 games against the Foxes, Rashford has scored five goals, his latest coming in the 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium last season.

It is a statistic that is all the more worrying for City given their recent defensive frailties. Brendan Rodgers’ side have conceded 12 goals so far this season, giving up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Crystal Palace in their last outing before the international break.

After that game, the City boss said that he will be working over the break to find a solution to City’s defensive problems in preparation for the visit of United.

“I need to decide if we need to change the shape of the team while we have the personnel we have that allows us to defend with that more stability,” he said.

“I’ve always in the main been really confident in our defending, how we press the game, and that when we’re in moments of pressure that we see it through. I have a feeling at the moment that it’s not quite where I want it to be.

“We need to do something about it and at least now we have a chance to affect that, and then bring those ideas to the players when they come back.”
